Southern Slow Cooker Green Beans

Here’s an easy way to make that Southern classic – in the slow cooker.  You just dump it all in the slow cooker and turn it on.  Ok, you do need to stir them a couple times, but the effort is minimal.  And since I use the packaged real crumbled bacon pieces, you get all that great smoky bacon flavor without having to cook bacon – or even better – without having to clean the kitchen after cooking bacon.  ?  They’re perfect for special occasions and free up space on the cooktop.  But they’re also easy enough to complement most any meal.  Y’all enjoy!

Prep Time: 10 mins

Cook Time: 6 hrs

Total Time: 6 hrs 10 mins

Servings: 6 to 8

Ingredients

2 lbs fresh green beans, washed and trimmed

2 cups chicken broth

1 (2.8-ounce) package real bacon pieces (about 3/4 cup if making your own)

1/2 yellow onion, sliced

3 teaspoons kosher salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Lightly spray the crock of your slow cooker with nonstick cooking spray. Add the beans, chicken broth, onion, salt, pepper, and about 1/2 of the bacon.
  2. Cover and cook on high for 4 to 6 hours or low to 6 to 8 – or until the beans are tender to your liking. Stir the beans a couple times during cooking.
  3. Serve topped with the remaining bacon pieces.
