Made 1,000 Meals For Hurricane Victims – Gets No Attention In The Media

A year ago, in Aug, 2017, we witnessed the devastating effects of Hurricane Harvey across Southern Texas — a force of nature that swept away everything in its path.

The hurricane took over 50 lives. It forced hundreds of thousands of people to flee their homes and demolished communities. And many people have been forced to start over from scratch.

It’s said that it will take years to rebuild the towns and areas that have been affected. But it’s in the hardest times that people have the opportunity to show their best side.

Ordinary people, volunteers, companies and non-profit organizations, they all came together in the aftermath of the hurricane to do everything in their power to help each other.

And Sake Sushi Bar and Lounge was no different.

Sake Sushi Bar and Lounge owners Phe Nguyen and Binh Nguyen in Port Arthur Texas, watched the disaster unfold within their community. They knew then that no matter what, they would contribute however they could to aid in helping their community.

Their mission; to provide hurricane victims with a delicious meal no matter what it takes. In just one day they provided thousands of food boxes to supply those in need.

Though the unsung heroes of Sake Sushi Bar and Lounge were unphased by not receiving any media attention for their efforts, Phe Nguyen’s son, Keith felt his father and the hard-working staff at Sake Sushi Bar and Lounge deserved to be acknowledged.

Not only for their tireless efforts but for their noble give back to the community, Keith went to Facebook sharing his message of recognition and praise for the restaurant and its staff:

Keith ended his post by saying, “If you’re ever in the area you should stop by and support these hard-working men, or even share their good deed on Facebook. They deserve it.”

But Keith was not expecting the widespread result of what happened next. The post about their inspiring story was not only recognized but went viral being shared over 444,000 times and receiving over a million interactions worldwide!

“Words cannot describe our gratitude and thanks for your great deed. We are all united!” one user wrote.

In a time where lives were lost, families left shocked, and neighbors huddled in shelters awaiting relief, the efforts of those who stand strong to provide for those in need should never go unnoticed, as their impact is felt to all those affected. This story among countless other heroes during the relief strategies taken place from Hurricane Harvey reminds us that it’s true, not all heroes wear a cape.

I think we should help share this story even further to pay tribute to this restaurant’s wonderful initiative. Talk about heroes!
